June 19, 2011 was the date for the 34th 10KM Road Race Classic, a well-known Run/Walk held on Father’s Day. A record of 1500 runners, joggers and walkers participated while many others were there to cheer on family and friends. Lloyd Schmidt and his team of volunteers always produce a well-organized event with many positive results. There were medals for all participants, recognition of speed/time in many categories, great prizes for fundraising, lots of free food and fun for everyone, including fancy balloons and face painting for the children. In addition to being a great race, it’s a wonderful opportunity for Heartwood Place to increase awareness and raise money for affordable housing. This year’s donations totaled $8000, including more than $2200 raised by Andre Hutchinson and $500 raised by Barbara LeBlanc—plus many other $$ secured by other racers and walkers. The support of many local businesses also help make this event an annual success, including Coldwell Banker Peter Benninger Realty, Economical Insurance, Runners’ Choice, Saucony, KOOL FM, Little Caesar's Pizza, Ziggy's Cycle, The Stone Crock and The Waterloo Regional Record.
Established in 1977, The Classic has raised money for many local organizations. HEARTWOOD PLACE is fortunate to have been chosen as the Charity of Choice for the past several years. We appreciate the hard work of the organizers and other volunteers who help make this a wonderful success and the commitment of the participants who raise money for our organization—and a very special “thanks” to all the donors!
