Building Materials Fund
Building Materials Fund

PROJECT HEARTWOOD is the capital campaign which raised funds for our next project at 26 Ainslie Street South in downtown Galt. With a total of $1.78 Million, this campaign focused on raising money toward the cost of the building materials. For every one-bedroom apartment, we targeted $25,000, for every two or three-bedroom apartment we targeted $30,000. We have raised $1,435,766! Because of reduced costs, including waiver of the Development Charges by the City of Cambridge and the Region of Waterloo, along with $99,000 from the Incentive Program at the City of Cambridge for Brownfield Redevelopment, this total meets our budget requirements!

An interesting aspect of this campaign is our interactive, web-based program which tracked our success and provided a visual record of our accomplishments. As funds were raised, the progress was demonstrated throughout the various stages of construction -- including framing, drywall, electrical and plumbing. Upon “completion of “purchasing” the materials, the lights in each apartment were “turned on” to record our success. Now that we have secured adequate donations to meet the budget requirements, all of the lights in the building are “turned on”—which will become a reality by late summer of 2010 when the building is complete.

Now that we have finalized the plans, confirmed the required funding and the project is under construction, we are actively looking for our third project. As soon as a site is identified, an agreement to purchase it is signed and initial plans are in place, we will be promoting Project Heartwood to raise funds for materials for that building. Visit our website for updates on our progress! We will be glad to share the news as soon as we have it! In the meantime, if helping us with the early stages of costs for that project interests you, you can make a donation now and be recognized as one of the early supporters to Project Number Three.
