The EIGHTH ANNUAL AMAZING RACE FOR

HEARTWOOD PLACE

JOIN US SEPTEMBER 15th 2013 FOR THE 8TH ANNUAL AMAZING RACE!

The History of The Amazing Race
The Amazing Race was launched in 2006 to create awareness and support of our work to provide more affordable housing in the Region of Waterloo. Based upon the hit reality show, The Amazing Race for Heartwood Place includes interesting and unexpected challenges across Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge which test skill, navigation and speed. With modes of travel limited to bicycles, public transit, walking and running - with the occasional chartered bus trip for relaxation, racers are challenged to determine how to reach each destination as quickly and easily as possible. At the end of the day, participants have a lot of fun!
The fun exchanging stories about what happened along the way, sometimes complaining that their team members were not as swift as they hoped! There’s a great blend of camaraderie and competitive outpouring and strong commitment to supporting Heartwood Place. Other teams are “in for the fun of it” and relieved to reach the end point, then share a hearty meal.

The Seventh Annual Amazing Race was held on September 15th, 2012

It was an AMAZING RACE for HEARTWOOD PLACE for many reasons!  AMAZING participants in two divisions—ADVENTUROUS ACHIEVERS and FAMILIES & FUNLOVERS-- had an AMAZING time with AMAZING Challenges to test their strength, speed and skill with points.

Sites throughout Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge included extreme organizational skill from HEARTWOOD PLACE staff and support from local businesses and city staff.  These included The Alpine Club, Hacienda Sarria, Kitchener Parks, Runner’s Choice and Waterloo Parks. Nearly  $28,000 was raised with prizes taken by TEAM G.O.A.T, Heartwood Hearthrobs, Rickerts Red & a Side of Fries and Barbies & the Studs for $$ raised.  There were AMAZING volunteers -- including the KFD led by Kevin Schmalz -- who oversaw sites and AMAZING hosts at The Alpine Club.
